Refraction Newsletter 23
Last call for Creative Grants applications! Plus, Refraction's Collection welcomes some beautiful new pieces while Editorial drops a few more in the REWIND series.
✨ | Creative Grants
The deadline for our Creative Grants application is right around the corner! You still have time to make a submission, just make sure to get your form in by August 15th! Please try to have your completed application submitted by 11:59pm in whatever time zone you are in. (Don’t worry if you’re a few hours late.) The most important thing is to submit an application that is thoughtful, thorough and reflects what is listed under “Successful grant application criteria” on our Creative Grants site.

We appreciate all the continued support and amplification on Twitter! Let’s give it one final push, as there are plenty of creatives in our collective network who can benefit from this initiative. As always, we appreciate y’all spreading the word so much.
📰 | Editorial
Hot off the presses — Editorial highlighted a few of our previous events this week, providing us with a chance to relive and reflect on some of the special moments in which Refraction members were able to gather IRL these past few seasons.
“REWIND: Refraction x Carnegie Hall” covered our collaborative partnership between the Black Speculative Arts Movement and Public Records in NYC for Carnegie Hall’s Afrofuturism festival. The evening’s visuals were curated by Linda Dounia and Greg Liburd, paired beautifully with FLEX AVE’s showcase of Epic B, Hitmakerchinx, and Uninamise. Listen to music from the night as you read!
Black Speculative Arts Movement founder and Carnegie Afrofuturism Festival partner Reynaldo Anderson wrote a profound piece, “Afrofuturism and Democracy: The Age of Disorder and the Coming Pluriverse”, which speaks to this vital movement and the emerging Afrofuturism 3.0 generation.
Lastly, “REWIND: Refraction x FWB - Public Records (NYC) With Ron Trent“ takes us back to our incredibly special evening at Public Records with FWB. The dance floor was packed and the air was dense with illustrious sounds from Ron Trent and other Brooklyn native powerhouses. The piece includes photos from the night along with recorded sets from Ron Trent, JADALAREIGN and Toribio.
