Jordan Hubner’s Guide to Culture & Community in Denver
Jordan Hubner has helped shape one of Denver’s most intentional listening environments through esp — a space rooted in Japanese kissa culture, high-fidelity sound, and presence over spectacle. His approach to culture centers on rooms that encourage attention: to music, to conversation, to atmosphere.
Denver may not always shout about its creative pulse, but it moves steadily through independent spaces built by long-time curators, DJs, artists, and organizers. From record shops that double as cultural anchors to social saunas redefining gathering, Jordan’s guide reflects the parts of the city where community feels earned, not manufactured.
Below, Jordan Hubner shares a few places that represent culture and connection in Denver.
FM
FM represents Denver in a very authentic way. Matthew Brown has been curating the scene through his space for decades, making Denver look good and feel good. The recent addition to offering a built in record store and events space lends itself even more to being a conduit of music and fashion culture. I like going in the mid-morning after getting a coffee at metropolis music heads and fashion enthusiasts seem to be the general demographic
Matthew is a long time Denver DJ and has been supporting music culture for many years. His space is not to be missed!
Portal Thermaculture
Giving people a place to congregate. They don’t have to drink but can still socialize, connect, laugh, discuss - or simply zone out and relax in the sauna.
Portal Thermaculture is the first social sauna in Colorado. The vibes are unique, the staff are chill and unique, the music is vibey - a sweat never felt so normal and accepted.
Creatives, artists, professionals and chillers. Those seeking connection, wellness and an atmosphere both subtle and social. I like to go mid-day when it’s less social.
Fort Greene
Fort Greene is a women-owned creative space that moonlights as a cocktail bar, serving Denver’s creative communities and beyond for over a decade.
Fort operates as a cultural platform, partnering with queer-led collectives, local artists and musicians, and mutual aid efforts — where nightlife centers connection, creative visibility, and community care. creatives, community organizers, artists, industry folks are their typical demographic. Early evening is a good time to go for an intimate atmosphere, or during a performance night when the room feels like a house party.
